Excursions in Hurghada: what are the best ones?

Here are the main excursions in Hurghada, allowing you to discover a different facet of Egypt for a day.

A day in Luxor, the most common excursion in Hurghada

One of Hurghada's great excursions is to Luxor. Around 5 hours away, it's a great opportunity to spend a day discovering the ancient temples, Pharaonic valleys and atmosphere of this Egyptian city.

After an early-morning pick-up, you'll discover the temple of Karnac, famous for its hypostyle hall with immense columns. You'll then head for the west bank. You'll then have the chance to cross the Nile in a traditional felucca.

The afternoon is reserved for the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's funerary temple. These are two impressive sites. In one lie many of the pharaohs who left their mark on ancient Egypt, while the other shows the power of one of the greatest queens the country has ever known.

Finally, you'll pass the Colossi of Memnon, before setting off again. As you can see, this is a great excursion to make from Hurghada during your stay on the shores of the Red Sea.

Orange Bay sailing trip

Orange Bay, a seaside resort in the south of the Giftoun Islands, is a common sight on a trip to Hurghada. And with good reason! The water is crystal-clear and turquoise, the sun high in the blue sky. In short, it's the locals' little corner of paradise.

You'll need to take an excursion of a few hours to reach it, off the coast of Hurghada. The outing is enhanced by water activities to keep everyone entertained. The program includes three stops for snorkeling and mud pulling. Lunch facing the Red Sea, before arriving at Orange Bay.

We discover the long sandy beach, the impressive wooden complex, the many poufs to rest on and the top of the structure to enjoy the panoramic view over the bay. A moment of serenity in sight... before having your photo taken on the large, trendy and photogenic swings.

In conclusion, it's the ideal way to enjoy the beaches with family and friends, while admiring the breathtaking view.

Exploring the desert

The desert is only a few kilometers from Hurghada. Excursions from Hurghada allow you to discover not only these breathtaking landscapes, but also many aspects of the local culture.

On a desert tour, you'll see the Bedouin way of life, enjoy a camel ride, admire the sunset or take in some stargazing.

More specifically, our guides will take you on a jeep tour. You'll drive flat out across the sand to a Bedouin camp. You'll see how they bake traditional bread and enjoy a typical Bedouin tea.

But the highlight is a short climb to the top of a cliff to watch the sun set over the mountains. The wonder is guaranteed!

As night falls, away from any light pollution, you'll be able to contemplate the stars to the full (if the sky is clear). This observation is accompanied by the explanations and knowledge of an astronomer.

Discover Cairo and the Pyramids

Cairo is around 5 hours' drive from Hurghada. Day trips from Hurghada allow you to visit some of the country's must-see sites, such as the Pyramids, the Sphinx of Giza and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

It's the ideal way to discover the rich history of this country.

You'll leave early in the morning to arrive in Cairo, before visiting the Egyptian Museum. On display are impressive collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts. You'll also discover the mummification process.

After lunch, you'll head off to explore the pyramids and the Sphinx of Giza. You can even visit the interior.

During this outing, you'll also have the chance to take part in a number of activities (at an additional cost), including a camel ride and entry to the Solar Boat Museum. This is where Khufu's boat is located.

If you want to discover the treasures of Cairo, this is one of the best excursions in Hurghada. But clearly also the longest.

A few tips

In this section, you’ll find a list of questions to answer any queries you may have.

How does it work?

You will be picked up directly at the hotel. You will be contacted via WhatsApp the day before departure to confirm your pick-up time. In the morning, you can then arrive at the entrance to your accommodation.

You’ll need to be there about 15 minutes in advance, as the tour driver has a 30-minute window to pick everyone up. It’s also possible that you’ll be the last to be picked up, and that the wait will be a little long (twenty minutes at most).

As soon as a mini-bus or jeep pulls up in front, the driver gets out to validate your name or room number. You can then take a seat next to the other passengers.

What should I take with me?

A few essentials to have with you make for a great time. Always carry :

  • European currency or Egyptian pounds in cash, as many extras on site are extra
  • a hat or veil to prevent sunstroke
  • sunscreen because of the strong sunlight
  • a bottle of water to keep you hydrated all day long (although they usually provide drinking water)

How long do they last on average?

It clearly depends on the tour.

Allow an average of 15 to 20 hours for longer trips, such as to Luxor or Cairo. We pick you up very early in the morning, around 6 a.m., and you return after 8 p.m., depending on traffic conditions.

Excursions to Hurghada that are close to the city, such as the desert or Orange Bay, take an average of 7 to 8 hours.

How many excursions can I do in Hurghada during my stay?

Over the course of a week, travelers usually take 2 or 3 tours, i.e. every other day or so. In fact, excursions in Hurghada take all day. They are therefore relatively tiring.

We therefore recommend that you do not take two excursions in a row. Schedule an outing, then opt for a quieter day of rest, with a trip to the sea for example.

This will enable you to get back on track the next day and fully enjoy another day of excursions in Hurghada.

This guide to excursions in Hurghada is coming to an end. Now you know everything there is to know about the best outings from the seaside resort.

The Temple of Karnac and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, the Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza in Cairo, Orange Bay on the Gitfoun Islands or the Bedouin camp in the Hurghada desert are all historical and cultural treasures to be discovered without further delay.
